I can see players liking walk up music, but I not like to hear it.

Why does PA play music when coach or catcher goes to mound to talk with pitcher ?

you guys must be older. Thats been a common occurrence in baseball across all levels for years now. Usually jeopardy theme, or some cartoonish song. My personal favorite that mercer plays is Help! by the Beatles lol

Several years ago, I filled in as PA announcer for a high school baseball team. When I agreed to do job, Rule #1 was, "I would play no music".

I'm surprised that it didn't become a full time gig for you :-|

Honest question: what type of music do you typically listen to/enjoy?

The only music I listen to is Christian music. When I drove down to Gainesville, FL in February for softball tournament, I never once turned on the radio in my truck, going nor returning. I do not need music to breathe.

Wow, I can't even imagine. I mean if that is your thing so be it, but music is such an amazing thing God has gifted many people for. How one could go without music is beyond me.

The older you get, the less impact has on us all. The only time I listen to music in the car these days is when I am hauling kids.

That's...that's...that's such a sad way to live. I would not be able to ride with you anywhere. While I think you went a tad overboard with the "I do not need music to breathe" comment, When I listen to music, or news or ESPN Radio while Im driving along, it serves as a nice backdrop for me while I'm traveling. I enjoy appreciating God's creation too, but to enjoy the beauty of what God made, while enjoying hearing others use the gifts he has given them for music or communication or otherwise, makes for a beautiful symphony as I go along. If you prefer total silence, that is your prerogative, but I think you are missing out on some wonderful and talented people.

I guess I haven't reached that point. I'm 32 with kid number 2 on the way and still love music as much today as I did when I was 18, if not more. I hope I never reach that point, and honestly, I don't think I will.

Ballcoach15, this explains so much about your position. Your music argument is similar to the one made by those who complain about people drinking while tailgating before games. Just because something isn't approved of by a small minority, that doesn't mean that the majority can't do it.

You seem to believe that everyone needs to cater to your personal idea of a perfect gameday environment. The problem is, the majority of people actually like what is currently happening with the music. Nobody wants to be around the old man shouting at people to get of his lawn...

Adam. you pretty much covered my point. That is a very...I guess narcissistic attitude to have to feel like everyone and everything has to cater to your needs and wants.

I actually enjoy the music at the games. From the band (and not just because I was a member), to the music during timeouts, it really adds to the experience I think. I love hearing the students belting out "Don't Stop Believing" in the 3rd quarter of football games, I sometimes laugh at the player choices for walkup music because they sometimes reflect their personalities.

When power went out before the game recently at LU stadium and they had to play without music, I did not hear anyone complaining about no music. there were a couple comments about no scoreboard.
The biggest problem with music at games is not the music itself, but the volume and frequency with which it is played.

I did listen to 88.3 several hours a day, until they changed their format. Now I never listen to it.

The scoreboard is more important than the music, but when the power came back it took the game ops crew an inning or two to get the music going again and the people around me were asking where it was.

I enjoyed that game with no distractions. Just softball.
