I was just curious is Liberty is offering there XC/Track runners scholarships? If so how much are they covering on average? Are they all the same or smaller for the less experienced runners?
Thanks!

We do offer scholies ... we'd have a tough time attracting the Josh McDougals of the world otherwise. We have a couple of guys on the board who could answer your question directly. But its homecoming weekend and the board activity is way down as a result.

In a nutshell, (at least the way it was) scholies are determined by a time standard for a particular event. Unlike other sports teams where depending on the talent pool available, you may be the best recruit ergo receiving the larger scholarship amounts, with Track/XC (at least distance events) the time standard was the barometer (there was actually a sheet that had time cutoffs with corresponding scholie percentage that qualified you for.) If you are running anywhere in the 15's or lower for 5k at the high school level, you will probably see some decent scholie cash, however, if that doesn't describe you, then you can always walk on the team and work your way up the depth chart and time standard. The first time standard (at least back in the day) that had benefits associated with it entailed earning gear (trainers/racing flats), then you moved up from there based on your time history and performance.

Yes, LU does offer Track Scholarships, and XC Scholarships. Though the standards are somewhat difficult to achieve. In T&F they usually take an athlete's two fastest times or two longest throws and average them together. They then compare the average to the standard/scholarship scale. XC does it a little differently...but if you are crazy enough to run long distances you'll be crazy enough to e-mail coach and ask him about the scholarship scale.

If we get enough posters talking track or XC on here I have problem creating its own forum. The reason LAX has its own forum is because we had so many posts back on the old Firehouse.

I'm pretty sure you were trying to say "...I have NO problem..."
At least, that's what I hope you were trying to say!
