For some reason Live-stats is not working. I guess the Winthrop score-guy took the day off.
Winthrop may be tough to beat, but I would like to see the Liberty girls give them a scare.
GO FLAMES!!!

Good question. I don't know the score but I'll bet they get it up quickly on the
Winthrop board.
Thanks for registering BTW.

I'm not sure why the LiveStats weren't on tonight, it's not the first time it has happened this year w/ WU volleyball...I'll pass on a score as soon as I know it.

The schedule/results page on LU's website shows that WU won 3-0...they haven't put up the scores of the individual games yet though.

I was thinking they could steal a game... I guess I'm wrong.
This is my first year to follow the Flames, so I'm watching with great interest how the other teams in the Big South play.
How would you describe Winthrop? Quick and athletic? Tall and strong? I know the coach and his wife do a good job of recruiting.
Head to head, is Liberty one good player away from competing with them? Or, two plus?
Tough night for the Lady Flames!

Hey Gymtalk, thanks for giving me the heads up on this site. Winthrop recruits well AND plays very tough the last few seasons. You know I am a huge Flames fan but Liberty is at least two or more players away from battling Winthrop for the top spot, JMO. I will also say that the rest of the conference is in the same boat. If Liberty can find some consistency in their play, they have a legitimate shot at the second spot. I am looking for the team to turn things around for Saturdays early game!

I haven't seen enough of LU volleyball to really have a good idea about what they need to compete w/ WU, though the Flames aren't the only team in the league this year that seems to be having trouble w/ WU (Winthrop is now 6-0 in the league and has won all 6 of those matches in 3 games). Coach McCartney has built up the WU program to be very balanced and very deep. He has an 11-person roster and uses all 11 players in just about every game. He has decent height (6 players 6' or taller) and just solid athleticism across the roster. He's from the midwest and was an assistant @ Oklahoma for a while, so he has alot of connections to that part of the country which helps him bring in alot of talent (ie. 2 JuCo All-Americans this year, one from Illinois, one from Kansas).

I see you are attuned to the sarcasm of the Force. But she would tell you the same thing. They don't care what happens to the women's programs at LU. And she would know! For starters, still looking for that female head coach...........in any sport
