American Sports Network / Sinclair Broadcast Group

Hi, I'm a long-time reader of FFF/FN and this is my first post.
I haven't seen this discussed yet so I thought I'd give it a shot here. (If this post needs to be moved to an existing thread, please forgive me.)
I am trying to understand something. So Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns a number of local stations, has signed an agreement with the Big South Conference to televise a minimum of 18 games for each Big South school. And these broadcasts will be on a new network called the "American Sports Network" but limited to Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and New Jersey.
(
http://www.bigsouthsports.com/entries/b ... ew-network)
So is the "American Sports Network" a new cable channel? (I saw where they signed a two-year deal with C-USA.) Or is Sinclair using the local stations they own in each market?
Also, the Big South Network was broadcasting some games live online. Will this continue?
Will LU's American Sports Network games be simulcast on LFSN? Aren't ASN and LFSN broadcast competitors at that point? Do I sound confused? I am.

Hey Kiwon, welcome to the board!

This is just the branding for a few games that these Sinclair stations are agreeing to air on their local affiliates in some markets. No cable channel or anything like that. It just is some cheap programming for Sinclair (and if any station group emphasizes cheap it is them) and some additional broadcast outlets for the league. Sort of a very small win-win for all parties. We actually get our LFSN games typically on more stations than what Sinclair offers. But any more exposure is a good thing.

and probably a good opportunity for them to contract LFSN to do the work for them. we already have the product. in HD

ASN has expressed interest in using my services on some of their content that they are producing. I hope I get some Big South Games but I am really interested in CAA, CUSA and Patriot League games as well.
Going to miss being on LFSN in terms of being around all my little brothers in the program but I am excited about my other opportunities!

Terrific! The more oars you have in the water in this business the better. I have friends who have worked for 5 or 6 different networks in the same week.

Its Official! I'm on ASN. I have a partial schedule now. I should lock in the rest tomorrow. I have 7 ODU games in Norfolk! I am really excited to be working in CUSA. I have a Harvard game in Boston in November. I will be working with some heavy hitters too. Mike Gleason and Ron Thulin are both big time play by play guys. I am really excited. Sad that I won't be on LFSN but they really did me a favor by letting me go. It was more than time for me to move on probably but I am so close to the program I wasn't really looking to move. God's timing is certainly better than mine could ever be. My 1st game is Nov 14th Florida Atlantic @ Elon. It's a CUSA/CAA clash! Mike Gleason on PBP. ASN has a pretty solid network of stations but their games are also picked up by Fox Regional and Comcast Regional stations and of course MASN. I hope you guys get to tune in!

I'll definitely tuning in for any MASN/CSN-Mid Atlantic game when I'm at home, no matter who is playing.

I appreciate the love Jake! Most of my games are CUSA and CAA so they should be some good match ups.

Thanks Spangler. Yeah I think the football has been pretty solid too. They are doing the Big South Monmouth at Liberty game this weekend too. I will be tuned in.

Was hoping to record it, but they are televising Western Carolina here.

I was remiss in my FB post last night Sly. I forgot to thank YOU for all the advice on how to pursue jobs as well as how to be a better commentator. I owe you a ton my friend! There is a chance I may get some games down in Texas BTW. I will know once I get on the phone with them this morning. I will let you know.
I finally talked to the Comcast Sportsnet guys today too. I think sometime within the next year or so I have a chance to get some of their games as well. We had a pretty solid exchange. Thanks again my friend for your guidance and friendship.

I just wish that they streamed more games. This deal actually means LESS Flames football available to people outside the east coast footprint or who don't have an ASN affiliate in their market. Of course, I have two here, and neither had the Monmouth game on. First game I was actually home for in about a month, and I had to just listen

May have been the first home game in 2 seasons I couldnt watch
VERY disappointed
Guess I'm spoiled but IMHO that's inexcusable for a DI FB program

Dude get MASN already. Pay for the extra sports package for the next few months and drop it after hoops season. You won't miss another Liberty game (or mine

)

You need to practice dropping your 'r's off the ends of words and saying that the weather is "wicked cold" and that the shooter is "wicked good" from 3-point land.
Congrats on the new opportunities. It sounds exciting. God bless!
