So does Liberty have a club team or is this just an otherwise "random" collection of LU students

It's a club team but I think they have open tryouts.

Its a club team...a friend of mine, Jason Kohout, worked with them for a few years (may still be I am not sure). They made it to the finals a few years ago if memory serves me correctly

If Im understanding correctly, you play as many 5 man games as you can in 2 20 minute halves. For every game you win, (eliminate all the other team's players and capture their flag, then return it to your base) you get a point. most points after the two halves, wins. Sometimes you have what they call "race to 2" or "race to 5" where you play and the first team to win the requisite number of games wins.

Flames come up short, knocked out by FAU 7-5 in final 12. A win would have advanced them to the quarterfinals.
LU has three other teams still competing in other categories.
