I often rooted for Virginia Tech, especially while Michael Vick was leading the offense there...but Liberty is and will forever be my #1 school. Whether they make the playoffs, move to FBS or not...when I set foot on that mountain in 2002, Liberty supplanted all other places and all other college teams and that will never change, regardless of result on the athletic field. I may root for other teams, like Oklahoma or Texas Tech or Old Dominion (except when they play Liberty), but the Flames will always be my #1 team. Im sorry that you don't feel the same way.
Good for you. But you have to understand that you can't EXPECT that from everyone. Some kids are born Trojans, Hokies, Cavs, Seminoles, Huskies, Ducks...etc. The ones that are born Flames are awesome, but unfortunately they are few. For me, I was born a Gator. Spent years going to Florida games with my dad and I'll never forget any of them. That school goes so far back in my family too, grandparents, uncles, aunts...etc. Why on earth would I throw all of that away to cheer for a FCS team that doesn't seem interested in winning? I came to Liberty for a degree, not for their athletic programs. If I was going to a school for sports, I would have gone to Florida. I'm open to Liberty changing my heart but I'm not going to make it easy. Florida is near and dear to me. You have to realize that my view is the majority around campus and until Liberty moves up, it's likely going to be that way.
