I love Liberty but until Liberty is FBS, I'll always rather go see my #1 school before Liberty. Just the way it is. I don't think people understand how hard it is to cheer exclusively for a FCS team that never makes the post-season or wins big games.

Umm...I will say this...my sister graduated from UVa. My parents went to UVa games frequently while she was there...I went to quite a few myself as well. I often rooted for Virginia Tech, especially while Michael Vick was leading the offense there...but Liberty is and will forever be my #1 school. Whether they make the playoffs, move to FBS or not...when I set foot on that mountain in 2002, Liberty supplanted all other places and all other college teams and that will never change, regardless of result on the athletic field. I may root for other teams, like Oklahoma or Texas Tech or Old Dominion (except when they play Liberty), but the Flames will always be my #1 team. Im sorry that you don't feel the same way.

You may have posted that in the one place in the world that does understand that. Boo to you.

Good for you. But you have to understand that you can't EXPECT that from everyone. Some kids are born Trojans, Hokies, Cavs, Seminoles, Huskies, Ducks...etc. The ones that are born Flames are awesome, but unfortunately they are few. For me, I was born a Gator. Spent years going to Florida games with my dad and I'll never forget any of them. That school goes so far back in my family too, grandparents, uncles, aunts...etc. Why on earth would I throw all of that away to cheer for a FCS team that doesn't seem interested in winning? I came to Liberty for a degree, not for their athletic programs. If I was going to a school for sports, I would have gone to Florida. I'm open to Liberty changing my heart but I'm not going to make it easy. Florida is near and dear to me. You have to realize that my view is the majority around campus and until Liberty moves up, it's likely going to be that way.

Do you hold a degree from this #1 school? and if not would you cheer for them if they ever played Liberty? Thats a serious question not a trap. It always intrigues me to hear why people cheer for other schools over their Alma maters (Family ties, growing up a fan, etc.) although that has already been discussed Ad Nauseam and my views on the matter. so I don't wish to travel down that rabbit hole again.

I don't hold a degree from there but several family members do. I've been going to Florida games as long as I can remember. Numerous tailgates with my family, Florida stuff always around the house. Being close to the school and in a community that is practically centered around the Gators. I've grown up with them. Watched a lot of players in high school go through Florida athletics, a few of which, are now professionals in their respective sport. Florida has given so much to me and my family, I feel like I would be committing a crime to not root for them over anyone else.

On the other hand, Liberty has given me a degree, that I paid for. Oh and some very serious comedic relief by winning "shares of the Big South title."

I have a degree from my #1a school but grew up in the State of my #1 school. Mountaineers and Hoosiers. Since WVU only played us once and we've never played IU, I'm in good shape. Figuratively.

One thing that ASU has is relative geographic isolation. You go west of I-77 and you're in App country, you see signs of support everywhere.

And where is LU? Oops, I mean Liberty? Right in between Tech and UVA. During the coastal game, people did the Hokie third down key thingy. These aren't actual Liberty fans.

I suggest we rename the site FlamePTfans. As in Part Time. Or PaThetic. Not gonna really cheer until they win and/or move up. In other words when the bandwagon rolls, y'all will be happy to jump on and claim you've always been a true fan. Ha!

I'm starting to wonder if this is a "Liberty fan" site or if it's a "I happened to have gone to Liberty" site. Wait no, I don't wonder.

Why does everybody gripe about the school in every thread? You guys obviously have no connections to the school other than happening to have attended there. Which apparently doesn't count for much other than purchasing a piece of paper to frame.

I only gripe about the school when I think they are doing something that hurts the name of the University I hold a degree to. Which seems completely justified in my opinion.

With that said it blows my mind that anybody that graduated from Liberty can cheer more for a school they never went to than liberty. I love Florida State and have since I was a little kid living in Orlando but if there ever comes a day where we are playing Florida State I will be cheering, without a doubt, for Liberty. I may find some of the things Liberty does completely ridiculous but I still love the school and always will. I don't think my love for my school should be questioned simply because I can be critical of things I find ridiculous.

I realize, LUCONN, your post was not directed towards me but I also feel like your statement almost is like saying just accept what Liberty does, if you don't you must not have true connections to the school. I expect comments like that from BJ and even laugh, but am kind of surprised to see them from you. We can disagree with things the school does and still love the university. I disagree with my wife too sometimes, but it doesn't mean I love her any less.

Sorry for the long post...I will stop now

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

It's a snobbery in reaction to a perceived inferiority. The snobs have in reality now become the "Liberty people", as opposed to the "Liberty people" that the snobs talk about. At least, that's my take. I see it on here and in the real world.

Not you personally postman. You seem to be an LU athletics fan. I was commenting on how few Liberty fans there appear to be here which is a funny juxtaposition to the amount of complaining about every little thing. Your time here didn't mean enough for you to have 100% emotional investment in the athletics yet you're outraged about LU trying to control their copyright because they look like bullies. It doesn't compute.
