As barn manager for Liberty University’s Equestrian Center, Caroline Trexler and her staff have their hands full tending to the 15 horses and a menagerie of other animals that reside there.
Starting this semester, she will be even busier as head coach of Liberty’s women’s equestrian team, the newest addition to the rapidly growing Club Sports program.

Not exactly a surprising development. The only surprise is that it took so long to begin.
If you haven't been out to the Equestrian Center, you really ought to check it out. My girls considered it a highlight of our trip to Lynchburg last fall.

Nationally, is this only a club sport, or is it also an NCAA sport?

I think it may be what they would call a "emerging sport" (has a following but not enough interest to make it a full NCAA Championship sport)

No...that's another term for polo...I don't think that will ever be an NCAA sport (and no water polo is not the same thing...)

Liberty tried Water Polo.
But the horses kept drowning.

THat would be correct, at least as of 2010. Back then it was an emerging sport for 10 years. NCAA webpage for emerging sports for women has had any updates since 2010 so I guess it's still considered emerging.

How long is it no longer "emerging" if it's been "emerging" for what will be 14 years at the turn of the calendar year?

Im not totally sure...I guess they keep it that way so they can monitor the level of interest before considering it for full NCAA championship status. If the level of interest has waned or stayed flat, they may end up removing it at some point in the not too distant future.
