Under the direction of first year head coach Jeff Maren, the Liberty women's tennis team enters the 2012-13 season with high hopes for success. Throughout the 2012-2013 season, LibertyFlames.com will provide a look at each of the Lady Flames' players.

Freshman Valerie Thong comes to Liberty from Alahambra, Calif., where she attended Campbell Hall High School. While at Campbell Hall, Thong helped guide her team to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 1 championship twice. She was also a three-time CIF doubles champion.

From the Head Coach: "I have been very impressed with Val's work ethic and desire to improve every day. She has tremendous potential to be an impact player in both singles and doubles, and with only three weeks of practice under her belt, she has already had a positive influence on our program. We are blessed to have her on the team!"

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
Deuteronomy 31:6. "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

It's one of my favorite bible verses because it's the ultimate trump card to my greatest fears. Anytime I am afraid or scared in any way, this verse reminds me that God is always with me and protecting me. I fear nothing knowing that he is always with me.

What is your favorite restaurant?
In-N-Out Burger

What was the most exciting thing you did over the summer?
I went hiking and swimming at Aztec Falls in California

Cameron Richard
Under the direction of first year head coach Jeff Maren, the Liberty women's tennis team enters the 2012-13 season with high hopes for success. Throughout the 2012-2013 season, LibertyFlames.com will provide a look at each of the Lady Flames' players.

Junior Cameron Richard returns as one of the Lady Flames' top performers over the previous two seasons. Richard was named the Big South Freshman of the year in 2011, finishing the season with 13 wins. In her sophomore campaign, Richard finished in a tie for second on the team with 10 singles victories. The Birmingham, Ala. native won eight of her last nine matches, playing the majority of the season in the No. 2 position. She also recorded eight wins in doubles play in the spring.

From the Head Coach: "Cameron is an extremely talented individual who has the potential to be an impact player in both singles and doubles. We are blessed to have her team spirit and love for the game with us every day!"

Rebekah Jenkins
Under the direction of first year head coach Jeff Maren, the Liberty women's tennis team enters the 2013 season with high hopes for success. Throughout the 2013 season, LibertyFlames.com will provide a look at each of the Lady Flames' players.
Rebekah Jenkins enters her junior year after posting nine singles victories during the 2012 spring slate, while competing in positions one through five. Jenkins concluded the season winning six out of her last 10 singles matches. Jenkins notched 12 wins in doubles matches, including nine victories while playing in the No. 2 position. The Florida native was named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 6-13. During the 2012 fall tournament schedule, Jenkins posted four wins, including a flight title at the Liberty Fall Classic.
From the Head Coach: "Rebekah plays an aggressive game and as a result will be a huge factor for us in both doubles and singles play. Her energy and love for her team will also help propel us to new heights."

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
I Cor. 1:25: "For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength."
This verse reminds me that, no matter what happens, God is always stronger than any circumstance that happens during our lives. That is reassuring to me especially when times seem unbearable, because I know my strength comes from the Lord.
What is your favorite restaurant?

Jessie Boda

Junior Jessie Boda saw most of her action during doubles competition during the 2012 spring season. Boda notched eight wins in doubles play, including a 6-4 record with partner Carol Lobel. In singles matches, the junior recorded a perfect 3-0 mark. Boda is coming off a solid fall tournament season for the Lady Flames. Her best weekend came at the Hokie Fall Invite, where she was able to post 3-1 marks in both singles and doubles matches.
From the Head Coach: "Jessie is one of the hardest workers on the team and because of this, she has improved her fitness and her tennis this semester. I have no doubt that she will continue to inspire the team and us as coaches in the spring and contribute towards our overall success."

Col. 3:23-24: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Under the direction of first year head coach Jeff Maren, the Liberty women's tennis team enters the 2013 season with high hopes for success. Throughout the 2013 season, LibertyFlames.com will provide a look at each of the Lady Flames' players.
Brittany Yang paced Liberty with 11 singles victories in 2012 during her freshman campaign. Yang proved to be a versatile player, competing in four different singles positions during the season. In doubles play, the Georgia native tallied eight wins, while playing the majority of her matches in the No. 1 position. During the 2012 fall tournament schedule, Yang collected four wins in singles action and five victories in doubles matches. The sophomore is off to a fast start in 2013, posting a win in both singles and doubles play in the Lady Flames' season-opening dual match against Appalachian State on Jan. 27. Yang was tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her efforts against the Mountaineers.
From the Head Coach: "I appreciate Brit's work ethic and willingness to listen in order to improve. She has the desire to raise her game to the next level and this inspires me and the rest of the team to climb to new heights this year."

Hebrews 12:11: "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
This reminds me that being disciplined through both the good and bad times will be beneficial to me in the long run.

Under the direction of first year head coach Jeff Maren, the Liberty women's tennis team is having a strong season, posting a 10-7 (6-2 Big South) record overall. Throughout the 2013 season, LibertyFlames.com will provide a look at each of the Lady Flames' players.
Sophomore Nicola Wellman has emerged as one of Liberty's strongest players so far during the 2013 season. Wellman has a team-best 11-4 singles record, including a 7-1 mark in Big South Conference matches. The Spring Hill, Fla., native has been a versatile player for Coach Maren, earning starts in the No. 3, 4 and 5 positions. In doubles play, Wellman teams with Rebekah Jenkins to form the Lady Flames' No. 1 tandem, notching six victories on the year.
From the Head Coach: "Nicola's commitment to improving her conditioning and mental strength has paid off as she is now playing at a very high level. She contributes to the team's success in both singles and doubles, but also helps to lead the team with her strong work ethic and determination to be the best that she can be. We are blessed to have her in our program!"
