Flames Men’s Soccer Announces Signing
February 1, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty Flames men’s soccer head coach Jeff Alder has announced the signing of two-time Adidas elite soccer program all-star team member Juan Guzman who has committed to attend Liberty and play for the Flames in the 2006-07 academic year.
Guzman, a native of Charlotte, N.C., has made the all-star team at the Adidas elite soccer program the past two years. The program recognizes the top 150 youth players in America.
“Juan embodies everything that Liberty University stands for in terms of academically, athletically, socially and spiritually,” stated Alder. “The poise and clarity he displays in the final third of the field with the ball at his feet will allow us to improve our scoring opportunities next season.”
“Juan's character, unselfishness and ability to make others around him better are all traits that appealed to our coaching staff and we are excited that he has decided to become a member of the Liberty Soccer Family.”
Guzman is a graduate of Charlotte Latin School were he led his team to 17-1-2 mark and the state championship game this season, while leading his team to a state championship and a 21-1-2 record in 2004. He has been selected first team All-South along with National Soccer Coaches America Association (NCSAA) All-Region and All-State. In addition, he has also been a member of the NSCAA/Adidas youth All-American team and the United States Boys Under-15 National team.
