Hey guys,

Received an email about this today. I would be interested to see your ideas.
We are looking to create a new Twitter #hashtag for Liberty Flames Athletics and we want YOUR IDEAS!! We want this to become somewhat of a Rally Cry for our fans. Once we implement the right one, it is going to become a focal point for all of our social media outlets and promotions as well as included around our stadiums on video boards, etc. So here are general outlines for the hashtag:
1) 12 or less characters
2) Involve Flame(s) in some way
3) DO NOT include LU (too generic)
4) Unique, easy and fun to say

Send as many ideas as you’d like, we’ll be writing them all down as they come in and be talking about our favorite ones. We’ll probably be taking ideas for the next month. Don’t miss out on this cool opportunity for YOU to be a huge part of the future of Flames Athletics!

What ever it is, make sure it has the word Flames in it. I mean, Flames will go with anything...perfect example....FLAMESPY...tell me that doesnt just roll off the tongue.

My vote: #FLAMESPY

#FLAME ON!

(Actually that has a lot of very negative potential now that I think about it...and I think its copywritten anyway)

I know, everyone adds nation to everything these days.

The problem is we're making the word "Flame" be in there. Anything we do with that word will instantly be taken in a homosexual context.

Too bad they can't get rid of the Flames nickname when FCS comes calling.

What about the Liberty LU's...then we can lift the ban on using the LU

2 birds 1 stone.

I noticed on Facebook that they didn't make the word Flames a requirement.

I also noticed that people had some terribly Christian-ese suggestions.

What is wrong with #goflames? Are we moving away because Calgary uses it as well?

I wouldn't doubt it. Since we seem to be afraid of everyone else, instead of trying to be the ultimate LU.

SJ, I saw a few of those and they gave me a good chuckle.

Liberty fans > Calgary fans. See no reason why we cannot simply take them over, especially with our marketing prowess. Billboards in Philly, Houston, Miami, not to mention national ads on Fox News. Just add the #goflames hashtag to every piece of mail/video/radio/billboard/Internet ad we have. Easy.

My vote -

#goflames

Why not do something as simple as #flamesLU

#goflames and #flameslu aren't something to rally around. Go flames is just so generic that it doesn't feel special to us.

yeah goflames is generic but why do things like this have to be complicated??

Some thoughts -

Athletics guidelines -

1. Must have Flames somewhere in in it
2. Less than 12 characters
3. CANNOT include LU (some of you here need your eyes checked)
4. Fun, easy to say, unique, etc

My personal opinion, adding onto and includingtend above -

1. Should be shorter than 12
2. "Flames" or any other form thereof should stay as a noun, not a verb for obvious reasons
3. There should be a verb, a call to action, and it should be as strong as possible while remaining short and under the 12 character limit
4. Should not mention anything Christian related

#goflames hits all of that and remember it can't be any more than 3 characters above that. #flameon uses flame as the verb and again I don't think that would be smart. The rest of the Facebook suggestions didn't even hit the guidelines.

We have 5 characters after using #flames to come up with a strong action verb that represents athletics well. Any wordsmiths here?

aside from the fact that we already ARE FCS in FB (I believe you meant FBS/I-A), we need to at least act like we care that ALL our other sports are already at the highest level- so rebranding now is pointless.

Haha. My bad. I really don't think Liberty has that much brand recognition as the Flames nationally so it wouldn't be a big deal. Come up with a better nickname and market it like crazy. If nothing less, it gets a little attention.

Our other 19 sports havent created a brand that couldnt be changed on a national level. Its a legitimate guess that less than 5% of the US sports following population knows we are the flames currently. I am not sure its something the current Administrations would consider, so this could be pointless.

Maybe its a personal dilemma, I just find it hard to "rally" as the FLAMES. Its cheesey. Knowledge AFLAME ? so we are the flames , with an eagle mascot? We also blow fire out of the top of the FOC for touchdowns. Add to that the flock of eagles conspiracy, its mass confusion.

For now however; GO FLAMES!
