It would be nice to see the other LU teams each dedicate next years season to the wrestling team that had to be sacrificed so they could realize their goals dreams and aspirations. All done in protest to title 9. Maybe it's just a number on a jersey of all the wrestling teams cut or personal to Liberty's plight of 39 wrestlers.

If you can find me 20 male athletes that weren't football players that actually went to a wrestling match then I won't laugh at this.

I can't wait to see the dramatic success of the other teams now that wrestling was eliminated rather than use the roster management plan Dan P proposed. Keeping 1 of the few Div 1A teams Liberty had was the way forward in my opinion to Bigger and Better. Unfortunately that course did not prevail so it will be interesting how many years until we see LU football or B-ball play real D1. It's going to be hard getting up for VMI or Webb When I could be watching LU vs UMD or VT in hope that LU would get some publicity and the students could see their team compete with the highest level college competition. Oh well back to mediocracy

On the positive side maybe one of those Big South powerhouse schools has a wrestling club team we can compete with Yeah!!!

(I don't know why I'm even wasting my time with this post, but...)

In the grand scheme of things, nobody cares about wrestling. Sorry, but it's the truth. Our Basketball team does play "real D1" now. And we've beaten and compete with the "highest level college competition" on a regular basis. Tell the 16,000 fans that come out to see us play VMI or GW or Presby that it's "going to be hard getting up for them". There are thousands of people that "get up" for our football team that don't even know we have/had a wrestling team.

When has our wrestling team ever been even mentioned on ESPN? Even on the bottom line? EVERY time our football or basketball team plays they are.

There's a reason why the football and men's hoops forums on this message board have 150,000 more posts than the wrestling forum.

Wrestling drew maybe 500 people and only had a small amount of home matches. If they were a big deal they should've drawn a lot more fans than that. Baseball regularly draws more than that on a weekend and there are three games in three days.

I've tried to be polite during most of this. I didn't like the wrestling team when I was on campus and personally there were only a few I liked when I worked in the athletic department (Coach Castro being at the top of the list). The wrestling fans and parents are just reinforcing why I didn't like them. You guys are doing more to hurt the sport of wrestling than help it. I'm almost getting to the point where I'm glad it was cut just so I don't have to listen to you people whine six months from now.

Medic: none of this was directed at you. I still like you.

This is getting out of hand and the reason why medic locked up the others.

Jon - You are better than that. Don't drop to his level.

LFan - Keep in mind we're all on the same team here, we go to the same school and wear the same color uniforms. Your attempt to bring down other sports here at LU simply to boost your own is sad and of bad taste. As others have mentioned you are not helping your cause. All coaches and athletes here work extremely hard to succeed - wrestling is no better or worse than any other.

Tell me LFan is it wrestling that is more important to you or is it Liberty?

I think the wrestling supporters deserve for you to quit hiding behind your screen name, be a man, and let us know who you are.
So, you worked in the athletic administration and admittedly were biased against the wrestlers? My name is Aaron Bruce and I am the class of ’94. Who are you and what position of influence did you hold in the athletic department? This goes to Purple Haize as well…you worked in the athletic dept too-didn’t you?

So, you guys would have more respect for us wrestlers if we would have tucked tail and went down without a fight? I guess America is worse off than I thought. Amazing, products of Jerry Falwell’s, “Champions for Christ” PO’d because some people are actually passionate about something they believe in. Jerry is rolling in his grave!

Hide behind a screen name? That's funny. 90% of the people on this website no who I am. It's never been a secret.

As for my "position of influence" - well, that's even funnier. I was a grad assistant and a student worker before that. I had no influence. I did what I was told to do. I didn't have a bias in my work. I just didn't like the attitudes and arrogance of the wrestlers personally. I still worked just as hard with wrestling as I did with every other sport.

and these people wonder why the original thread was locked...the stupidity flowing from people's keyboards is simply mind numbing.

this board becomes less and less enjoyable as the months go by....

I am never for locking threads but in this instance it at least makes sense

I did too. Pretty funny. I should've counted how many posters on here I'm friends with on Facebook and posted that to show that people know my name.

The only thing I had influence on is when people cheered and football games the first year we had the scoreboard.

If you mean get up and leave in the second quarter, then yes :D

I still believe if Wrestling got enough publicity and was located in a smaller arena it could have found a niche within the student body.

Of less than 1000 people, yes. It was never going to be a huge sport.

Thanks Jonathan, I appreciate your willingness to stand up behind your words. It is unbelievable what some people are willing to say when they are masked behind a screen name. Although it seems there are several on here that are enjoying mocking me, I still stand by my reasoning that if someone says that they worked in the athletic department then they should be willing to identify themselves. For example, I now know that your position did not allow for a conflict between your professional duties and your personal bias against wrestlers. I wonder if that were the case when I listened to the flames update on the radio during the NCAA wrestling championships and didn’t hear a peep about how the guys were doing?

I am new to posting on message boards; I am not really sure why it is so silly to ask the identity of someone who is openly mocking me when they know who I am. Is it socially “cool” to be able to cower behind a screen name and pitch all kinds of blither at others in this environment?

What is silly about it is you were asking SJ who he was. Out of everybody on this site, he’s the most open person as to who he is. If that makes sense.
