Cook Family Donates Funds for Tennis Center

Liberty Athletics has announced that long-time University and Athletics supporters Sherwin and Lora Cook have provided the lead gift for the Cook Tennis Center, soon to be the new operations center for its men's and women's tennis programs.

"We are all grateful to Sherwin and Lora Cook for their wonderful gift to our tennis program," said Jeff Barber, Liberty's Director of Athletics. "Facilities play a vital role in the ability for our institution to recruit and compete at the highest level. The Cook Center will provide our tennis programs with an outstanding home and with a better chance to be the type of program we strive to be."

The facility will be constructed adjacent to the program's 12 new championship tennis courts located on Liberty's Campus North. The 2,500-square foot building will house two locker rooms, training and laundry rooms, a stringing room, four offices for coaches, a kitchen area, team room and a balcony that will overlook the tennis courts.
Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Cook!!!

Are those lights enough to play a match at night? They just look like the same lights in the parking lot?

To answer your question '09, yes they are. They are much better than the lighting at the old facility, and many tennis facilities across the country have similar lighting styles now.

Probably behind the six new courts which are across the street from the other six courts beneath the LCA softball field.

"Since Liberty Athletics' announcement in early November that the Cook family would provide the lead gift for the Cook Tennis Center, steady progress has been made toward beginning the facility's construction.

The architectural drawings (viewable from the above link) show the design for the new home of Liberty's tennis programs, which will be built adjacent to the 12 championship tennis courts located on Liberty's Campus North."

pretty darn close to my original rendering. I think I deserve a cut of the architect fees here.

tennisfan - I was at the invitational a couple of weeks ago and took a few pics and put them up on Facebook. Unfortunately, your daughter wasn't playing at the time. The facility has really turned into a great venue. There was a nice buzz around the event. Parking was actually tough to find as well.
