Liberty’s 2009-10 athletic year officially wrapped up Saturday, when Sam Chelanga finished as the NCAA national runner-up in the men’s 5K final in Eugene, Ore. Now, it’s time for Liberty fans to select the Flames’ most notable accomplishments from the past year, when voting for the fourth annual Sparkys begins on Monday.

I'm not saying there were wins they should have included because I can't think of any. I'm just stating this year was a weak year in regards to big wins.
When the women's bball team's conference championship victory is the favorite for best win, that's a weak year.

I would put our men's basketball win at Radford up there. It came after a really bad loss at HPU and I think showed us we could compete with the best teams in the conference.
The Women's win in the tourney was only notable because we lost to them twice during the season.
Hard to say we really had a big win in football. Obviously, that would have been Stony Brook.
The "double triple" our T&F and CC teams pulled off was unprecidented, so if we can count that as one, I would say it was the biggest.

Men's tennis handing Radford their first conference loss since 2007. That's my (completely and incredibly biased opinion.

Softball's win is leading so far

Softball wins.
On to best individual performance.
With about 100 votes so far, Mike Brown (2 TD's against WVU) is only 3 votes behind Sam Chelanga (XC national championship). Once again, these things don't matter in the least, but this really isn't even a contest. Mike Brown is one of the greatest things to ever happen to LU football, but c'mon. We are talking about a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP here...setting a course record by 22 seconds (an eternity in the sport) and winning by 25 seconds against the best runners in the country. To be honest, I think Sam's national collegiate record at 10,000 meters (27:08) a couple of months ago is right there with the XC title.

Mike brown has my vote. I’d much rather vote for someone whose had years of training and conditioning with a ton of talent over someone who is a natural runner. Yes Sam is AMAZING but there’s a lot more to football than there is to running.

WOW

You know nothing about running if you believe this...
Natural runner - there is no such thing. Running is all about the hard work. Not taking away anything from Mike Brown, but Sam puts in so much more work... Mike gets days off - sometimes weeks off - Sam doesn't have that option.
If they both took off a month - Mike can get by on his athleticism alone. Sam would get killed.
If Sam doesn't win this award - I will be blocking the Liberty Flames website on my server...

Can we nominate this post for Dumbest Post of the Year?
Mike was good, but he won a football game.
Sam won a national championship.

Come on, dude. Something tells me you have thicker skin than that. I think the dumbest post of the year comment was hyperbole. Everyone has an opinion and around here they feel more than willing to share. There is no use getting offended unless it gets personal.

I'm dead serious. If our fans give a Sparky (Gayest name EVER by the way) to anyone other than SAM - I'm will block Libertyflames.com. No one from my office will be able to get to that site again.
This guy didn't just win - no one was even close. Was Mike's game on National Television???

It's now Sam up by 55% to 35%. I voted at work, now I need to remember to vote at home too. For some unknown reason, they only nominated Sam for his cross country championship and don't even mention his national championship in the outdoor 10k and runners-up in the indoor and outdoor 5k. Any one of them should win this thing. Put them together and it really should be unanamous. I love Mike, but until he leads us to a national championship, it's a no-brainer for me.

Just needed a little kick in the butt... People tend to hit the see results button before voting and vote for what's popular.

National championship > a good performance in a football game. Sorry Mike Brown, but Sam has my vote.

Ok, let's not act like MB's performance against WVU wasn't amazing, because it was. Obviously, Sam's performance should outweigh it, but MB played amazing on a very large platform.
