Liberty Men’s Tennis Coach Chris Johnson has announced the signing of two student-athletes, Shea Thomas and Stan Vaughn to a National Letter of Intent. Both will enroll at Liberty for the 2010-11 academic year.

Thomas, a native of Petamula, Calif., recently won a championship level tournament in California and was selected No. 69 on the Prince Hot 100 list of U.S. junior tennis players, posted on tennisrecruiting.net .

“Shea’s rapid development in the last year is a result of the type of hard work and dedication it takes to win at this level,” stated Johnson . “He will be a very welcomed addition to our team and will no doubt compete for a starting position his first year.”

Vaughn, who hails from Golden, Colo., is currently ranked No. 5 in Colorado, according to tennisrecruiting.net .

“Stan has a big game that will get even bigger as he moves into a more fluent tennis environment here at Liberty,” commented Johnson. “I look forward to watching him achieve his full potential on and off the court here at Liberty.”

Very cool. Tennis is really starting to take off and I am guessing the courts certainly have had something to do with it.

Having a good facility definitely helps with recruiting. From what I've seen, Winthrop CURRENTLY has the best facility in the Big South, but in the near future WE should overtake them.

Meant to post this earlier, but my laptop is sick so I can only get online at work lol.

I was going to take some photos of the new courts the other week but since it looked more like a dirt parking lot, I refrained. Wish they would follow the construction process on the main site like they did with the last courts. Maybe they will as it moves along...

still need those blueprints for the clubhouse from TF's other half

Good Morning PAmedic!
You don't know how much I wish I were an architect!!!
I have a great picture in my mind of this amazing Liberty Tennis Center but it looks hilarious when I try to make that appear on paper!!
My husband is SO busy at work. This is such a blessing because most architect firms are struggling with our current economy. He just does not have the time now or in his immediate future, I am SO sorry.
Maybe the Liberty architects could play around with the idea??
I just think a tennis center with great viewing of the courts and the surrounding mountains would make for an awesome venue. Sorry that we have not come through with our end of the bargain.

I do know that when we travel to tournaments the facilities that have taken the time to make the venue exciting for both the athletes and the spectators tend to be our best tournaments. It is amazing how the facility itself inspires the athlete to perform at their best, it REALLY does have an impact (not only for recruiting but for day to day practice and then for the tournaments/matches).

Hopefully Liberty University will recognize the importance of a great tennis center and will create a facility/venue that brings much excitement to the campus! :clapping

We would love to see photos of the new courts anytime. Happy Day!

figured I'd help the design process along. My finest work, yet- I believe.

you'll note it has all the requested design elements- including the drive thru to allow access to either set of courts without crossing the road.

I took the liberty of granting myself naming rights for my efforts.

I am disturbed that it is "PAMedic Memorial". Memorial is usually a posthumous designation. You're not planning on leaving soon are you? That is a sad thought!

I'm guessing Medic's life insurance will pay for the memorial. May he RIP.
