Powell off to great start

After a frustrating sophomore season, former Marianna and Cottondale track star Clarence Powell is finding his way again at Liberty University.

Powell, who graduated from Cottondale High School in 2007, was recently named the Big South Conference men’s indoor track athlete of the week.

The honor came after an excellent performance at the season-opening Liberty Kickoff on Dec. 2-3 in Lynchburg, Va.

At that meet, Powell won the high jump competition with a personal-best leap of 7-feet, 0.25 inches.
