This is where the ladies get everything rolling. I think ETSU will probably be the toughest competition. We might even drop a set to them, but I believe we will come out on top. Elon should be a good competitive team, but I believe we win in 3.

Side note: Elon's assistant coach was Nicki's JO coach when she played in Fayetteville, and refereed
several of her high school games. He was instrumental in teaching her great fundamentals of the game and game strategy. She also played High Performance for the husband of Elon's head coach, and played on the same high performance team with one of Elon's outside hitters.

Just checked Elon's roster and Nicki's friend is no longer on the team. Elon is 5-0 for the season. Best win was against UNC-A in 4. Just beat UNC-Charlotte in 3. Hitting percentage was only .210. That was bolstered by a .345 in the last set. UNC-C hit only in the low .100s but had 10 blocks against Elon.

Howard has a freshman that is 6'6". Talk about tall! Her coach says that when she gets her stamina and technical skills going, she will be a force at the net.

I don't see us having any problems with Howard. Elon was picked to finish 2nd in the SoCon, and ETSU is probably going to be tough. Looking forward to some good volleyball this weekend.

Wow! The ladies came out with a vengeance tonight. Nicki said she and the other ladies fed off of the energy of the crowd. Great crowd! The LUnatics were awesome. If we can keep that kind of energy going in the crowd for the season, teams coming to the Furnace can expect to be cooked by the Lady Flames. :woohoo

wow what a game. This team for the a good majority of the match played up to their potential. That third set was a little bit nerve racking as the passing went south for a little bit but the team got it together on that end and closed the door in the third set. Courtney Cooper really impressed me tonight with her defense and her serving. The crowd was awesome and hopefully we can have even more fans at all the home games.

LU falls to Elon 3-1 (15-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23) Chelaine McCarty and Kallie Corbin make all-tournament team.

Pray for Karyl Bacon though. She badly hurt her left ankle on a play in the second set. Probably the quietest the Vines Center has been in a good few minutes, and all you could hear was her crying...I'll let Vadim and Gymtalk discuss the more technical side of things but I certainly had a blast with the volleyball LUnatics tonight

I was watching that game at home, and I saw Karyl get hurt. I felt so sorry for her because you could tell that she was in EXTREME pain. The camera zoomed in on her and tears were streaming down her face...Praying for her, definately.

About the loss to Elon...I think that we were supposed to lose this one for a reason and that there is something we are supposed to learn from it. Hey, maybe God wanted us to lose this one to show us what it will take to beat Louisville, Wake, and Duke coming up in the next two weeks. I am excited about this volleyball season, and I look foward to another great season!!! I hope someone will get revenge on Elon for us.

talked to both Coach Pinder and Karyl after you left. it is a sprain and hopefully will only sideline her for 2 weeks min.

also got to meet atrain at the 10am game

havent spoke to coach tonight yet but let's not put to much of a time line on this yet. Tomorrow will be when a good time line can be set. I'm sure the swelling is a little to much still to get a good grasp on how long it will be. 2 weeks would be amazing though considering how bad everyone there told me it was.

Great crowd on hand for the tournament. The opening game was amazing! Tough loss to Elon, but then again they are undefeated for a reason. I still think they were beatable. The girls played hard Jacobsma, Cooper, and Thomas proved they can play with the "big girls". Kallie isn't just a volleyball player ... she's a warrior! McCarty and Scriptco were their normal "awesome" selves. I was very worried about Karyl. I was at a loss for words during that moment. I absolutely hate to see that happen and hope that the reports of a minor sprain are correct. This LU team is very, very good. There are a few hiccups right now, but I thnk there are going to be some great moments this year! I loved meeting so many of the parents this weekend and a big thanks to Kallie's and Nicki's dads for treating me to some great NC BBQ! It's great being associated with a class act like the LU volleyball program.

yea from what karyl said the trainers told her since she had sprained the ankle before the recovery time shouldn't be as long. she was on crutches and had it wrapped with ice. other then that she was positive and so was coach who said that he hopes she will be back in 3 weeks

That BBQ was absolutely awesome. It certainly helped all of us working the tournament this weekend. Seemed like the team lost their edge when Bacon went down. LUnatics were great even in the morning.

See you all on the 26th.

The LUnatics deserve great thanks for the tremendous spirit they showed at the matches this weekend. We just need more of the people in the stands to catch the vision that the matches will be more fun for the fans and more inspiring for the girls if the WHOLE Vines Center crowd is engaged in the yelling and the cheering.

You could tell how energized the Flames were in the first match by the huge, active crowd. So, let's keep encouraging more people to come and get loud for this championship team.

As far as the Elon match goes, we just made too many unforced errors to win the match. In my opinion, we had the more talented players, but we just made too many mistakes to win.

A funny moment though was when Kallie got her 4000th assist. As she was getting up to serve, they showed the graphic on the screen (for the FTN broadcast) and everybody applauded (and I think the LUnatics had a chant) and all she could do was crack a smile and laugh a bit (I think she was slightly embarrassed). I found that funny but notable
