Former Liberty Flames soccer player Jonathan Burklo has signed a professional contract with the Cincinnati Kings of the United Soccer League.
“We are excited for Jon and his family that the pro team from Cincinnati has signed him to a contract,” stated Liberty head coach Jeff Alder. “He has worked extremely hard to make this dream become a reality.”
“His growth as a player and a person during the past four years here at Liberty has been tremendous. We wish him continued success as he uses his talents and abilities to impact and influence people for God.”
Burklo, a native of Tampa, Fla., completed his Liberty career last season by being named to the 2006 Big South all-conference second team as a defender. During his four seasons with the Flames, he proved to be very versatile as he played several different positions. In 70 career games, Burklo netted seven goals and assisted on 13 others. This past season, he started all 16 games as a defender and served as one of two team captains for the Flames.
Burklo graduated in May from Liberty with a degree in biology. He is expected to play defense for the Kings when they take the field July 21 in Cincinnati against the Long Island Rough Riders.
