Tuesday, the women's team had a spring season game against Lynchburg College. Liberty won 2-1 with great goals from Caitlin Riley who has come back from injury and Jordan Woody the younger sister of Maggie Woody. This is the same outcome as the fall, but a different team with again a new assistant coach. It may be too soon to tell, but maybe a good spring season could boost the confidence for the coming fall season.
Will do. I hear they have a game against Longwood on Saturday. After the last few meets, this should prove something if the change is significant enough.
Another loss as Liberty falls to Longwood 2-1 in their second game this spring. The lone goal was scored by Maria Owen with 5 minutes left in the game. Liberty has lossed to Longwood in their past three meets now. Next game is Saturday in North Carlolina.
Next weekend should be a good challenge for the girls. Western Carolina won their conference and had a visit to the Tournament this past fall only to fall to North Carolina. Campbell has played against several teams the Flames girls did, so it appears they will be evenly matched. With the loss of quite a few players from last fall, this is a very young team for which patience and perserverance will be needed.
The coach needs to figure out who has the heart to win on this team. They looked very tenative playing out there. They are very short players to give some rest. The coach needs to instill the passion to play at 110%. If they don't, put them on the bench until they learn they must give it their best.
This is spring season. Things need to change. Beating LC with the same score as fall, losing to the fake LU same as last fall, doesn't seem like change. Patience is good, but for how long? Perseverance is good, except coaching has only shown it with the L's on the schedule. Coaching staff needs to show a change sometime soon. They may have lost 9 seniors, but they had those seniors in the fall as well as the #1 recruiting class of 2008 and ended 3-12-2 finishing last in the BS and first time absence in the tournament ever. I am hopeful in this weekend, with this even play maybe some W's and lifted spirits.
It looks like some real progress has been made this Spring! Looking forward to this program getting back on the winning track when it counts in the Fall.
Good to see the girls improving. And don't be too harsh on the new coach, transitions can be rocky (see Men's and Women's tennis 06-07 and vball under Pinder's first couple of years) and it can take time for things to be righted.
Great finish to the spring season with a 3-0 victory over VMI. 3 wins, 2 ties and 1 loss brings hope to next fall and the start of a turn around for the program.
