FINALLY!

Flames' Men's Soccer Finalizes 2006 Slate

June 15, 2006
Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty head coach Jeff Alder has announced the completion of a 16-game schedule featuring seven home contests and non-conference matches with 2005 nationally-ranked Virginia, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Virginia Tech.

In addition, the 16-game slate has the Flames playing nine road contests, seven Big South Conference matches and nine non-conference matches. The schedule also features contests with five NCAA Men’s College Cup participants.

Highlighting the non-conference schedule is a visit by the North Carolina Tar Heels to Liberty Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon, September 9. Last season, the Tar Heels advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA College Cup.

Besides the match with North Carolina, the Flames will host non-conference opponents Gardner Webb, in the first home contest on Friday, September 1, Southern Virginia and Campbell along with Big South Conference opponents Coastal Carolina, the defending conference champion, UNC Asheville and High Point.

The Flames will open the 2006 season on the road with their first two contests of the season. On Friday afternoon, August 25, Liberty will square off against Mount St. Mary’s in the 2006 opener and then play Longwood on Tuesday evening, August 29, before returning home for their first match at Liberty Soccer Field. The road schedule features non-conference contests at Virginia, North Carolina State and Virginia among the nine road matches. The Flames will also square off with Radford, VMI, Winthrop and Birmingham-Southern in away contests in Big South Conference play.

Liberty will return to Radford at the end of the season for the 2006 Big South Championship. The tournament is scheduled for November 2-5.

If we beat them then I will be happy for LU. But LU faces a daunting task playing this team. But I guess the game has to be played.

maybe ol' PAmedic has to come down and lace up the ol' cleats just to help the boys out. I got an old #15 jersey of mine somewhere in the basement- it may actually still fit. 8)

or maybe not (all of the above) all that running can't be good for my heart.
