The title says it all:
Liberty setter Kallie Corbin and High Point head coach Chad Esposito were voted the 2008 Big South Volleyball Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, by the League’s head coaches, the Conference announced at the League’s annual volleyball awards banquet held at the Double Tree Biltmore Hotel in Asheville, N.C.

Way to go Kallie-girl. Enjoy the moment and the honor shown to you by the Big South coaches. They admire your athletic ability, but more than that, they respect your love for the game and your passion to win.

We could not be more proud!

Kallie definitely deserved it. She is a fantastic player, and she showed the BS last night that the honor was well deserved. She played a fabulous match against G-W.

I created a spread sheet for Hitting, Kills, Assists, Aces, Blocks and Digs. Then I listed the stats of the top 10 players in each catagory. Based only on stats, the following LU players should have been on the following teams:

First Team:
Chelaine: #1 in Hitting, #5 in Blocks
Nickie: #3 in Kills, #3 in Aces

Second Team:
Karyl: #6 in Digs, #10 in Aces

A case could be built for Ashley (#6 in Blocks) and Jessica (#8 in Digs) as well.

I bring this out to simply give those girls a public compliment for a great year, and maybe a little motivation for today's game.

Go Liberty Volleyball!!

Coaches in the conference do look at the stats. Kallie was the only player to be listed in the top 10 of three catagories. In fact, her lowest ranking was a 5th place. I think the "hat trick" may have been the main reason she got the POY over several very good outside hitters with big Kill numberes.

I am guessing Gymtalk might have something to do with this hometown story ...
Beaverton Valley Times wrote:Westview’s Corbin is ‘POY’ and ‘MVP’

The Beaverton Valley Times, Nov 28, 2008

Lynchburg, VA. – As a junior at Liberty University, and the starting setter for the volleyball team, Westview High graduate Kallie Corbin is making history on the east coast.

A 2005 all-state player at Westview, Corbin has made 2008 a keeper, leading Liberty to a league title and winning Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors in the process.
