They are ACC in everything but FB and play an ACC Lite FB schedule. Prior to that they played in the Big East. Of course they don't need an exception since they have been FBS from Day 1

"Flames anticipate being invited to join the NCAA’s Division I Football
Bowl Series (FBS) Division. This would involve Liberty leaving the Big

of time."

While the title seems to imply it comes from the State of VA, the tone and content of the whole thing reads like a blatent promo of Liberty Does anyone know who actually wrote it :dontgetit

If the plan is to go independent and work (or force) our way to FBS membership from there, that would be another reason for the change at AD

We may need to start a new thread for this one
James Koch, Board of Visitors at ODU and President Emeritus.

The report also says that full professors earn 110k/year. Whatever.

I have no reason to believe Dr Koch has any inside info on our athletic plans, and even if he did this would seem a strange way to unveil them, all of which makes me think the part about going independent was pure speculation based on the rumors to that effect that have been out there over the years

For some reason the people at ODU seem to like us First their AD and now this guy (referring to the overall glowing report on Liberty)

Brad Butler, Planning and Construction Coordinator for Liberty University commented that Liberty will be unique in this development. “Around three hundred and fifty universities in this country participate in some form of shooting competition, and around thirty of those universities own outdoor shooting facilities off campus. However, Liberty will be the first university to have nationally recognized ranges that meet NRA and NCAA guideline standards and be able to host all Olympic shooting sports on its central campus property.”

Surprised the haters/snowflakes haven't jumped on this one yet.

Agreed but given the specific set of circumstances around this one it's a lot more cringe worthy

At the latest basketball game, large signs were passed out to the pep band in an attempt to distract and irritate the opposing team trying to shoot free throws. They reminded me the signs you see on TV at major college basketball games! :clapping

I may not know much about Liberty's present athletic department, however I know that AD McCaw doesn't play games. The reason is that he looks like a man who doesn't like to lose or be part of such a program. So I wouldn't be surprised if people will "resign" from their positions in the next few months and onward. In a way I do not mind if he does such actions because you want individuals who a visionaries and not ride along. Its fine that people are nice and wonderful men/women of Christ. Nonetheless if the institution that they're representing isn't moving forward then they have to go. You can also connect this to the word of God. We gave to represent ourselves through a working commitment with our faith in Christ, yet also hard work and determination at our occupations. Of Liberty (mostly Falwell) wants to expose this school as FBS (also a top opponent for other sports) ready, then he has to do what it takes. I believe hiring McCaw was the first steps in that direction. For all those who are keeping the programs behind, no hard feelings. The fact of the matter is that this school, faculty, student, alums, supporters can be so better and committed especially with all the assets that the Lord has blessed Liberty. McCaw is right; we need to engage in all the groups mention above and become a force that will not be reckon with (paraphrasing). That's just my two cents.

Where does it say FBS=God's Divine right? Where does it equate on field success with furthering God's Kingdom? That's an awful slippery Theological slope you are treading on. There certainly is validity to being a workman showing themselves approved in God's sight and all that. But there is also the Tower of Babel, the Rich Young Ruler, and a host of other points in Scripture that need to be considered.

As a Christ follower, everything that you do should be to glorify God. Theology can be compromise with the flesh/emotion of man. I am using scripture such as 1 Corinthians 9:24-27. As athletes, you have to compete your hardest and best for the glory of God. These facilities are to help these athletes compete harder, but in the end all the hard work is for Gods glory. No disrespect, I believe you're thinking too hard on my comment and not realizing that is the point of all our gifts and blessings. It is not wrong to improve the things you have, yet it isn't right to put it before God. I don't think that is the case here. The fact that Liberty exhibits the faith of God on the field, win or lose, and given thanks on the field is an example of how the Holy Spirit is working in the lives of the athletes and those who they compete again. You don't know if a game or more can make an impact of someone wanting to know more about Christ or surrendering their life to Him (as you mentioned above). The fact that you consider mentioning the Tower of Babel or the Rich young ruler exhibit an assumption and not a fact for the vision of Liberty. This isn't just an idea that was thought of last decade. This is a plan from the establiment of the college(now university) to succeed and expand all for the Glory of God.
