Evansville Defeats Liberty, 3-1, to Claim Liberty Invitational Title; Corbin Voted Tournament MVP
August 25, 2007
Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty setter Kallie Corbin was voted MVP of the Liberty Invitational Presented by Pepsi, after helping the Lady Flames win two of three matches to open the 2007 season.
The Evansville Purple Aces blocked Liberty’s path to the Liberty Invitational Presented by Pepsi title, Saturday night at the Vines Center. The taller visitors recorded 13.5 blocks to the Lady Flames’ four and pulled out a 3-1 (30-27, 20-30, 31-29, 30-21) decision to win the tournament title, in the last of the event’s six matches.
Good job by the ladies. I guess it's an indication of the raised expectations that there is at least some disappointment over an outcome like this.
Boy, I knew this was a young team, but I just looked at the roster and compared it with the box scores from the tourney. We are REALLY young and at key positions, and the freshmen and Sophomores are already coming through big-time. Get out the shades; the future is looking really bright for LU vollyball!
LU is going to be just fine when it's all said and done. This is very much a sign of things to come and not to mention right now we have some people playing out of their primary position in order to fill in. This team is young and they are bound to lose a few games that they should win. You give this group another year along with one of the best setters LU has ever seen and we now have a power house. It appears we could be adding 1 more big banger next year, and honestly right now that would be what would take us to the elite of the BS, a 6'3" banger

I think we got off to a great start considering that we often had 3 ladies on the front line at the same time who are brand new to LU. As the year progresses, they will get much better and their timing and comfort level with each other will improve.
