Still no love for Dr. Falwell or Jeff Alder? I am very upset with you all.

Jeff Alder, no not a first ballot guy.

Dr. Falwell - I'm not sure if he should be honored with this. I haven't really thought about it much though. Sure, without Dr. Falwell we wouldn't be where we are (thanks beej), but should we honor him with EVERYthing we EVER do? I don't know.

The only one from tennis I can think of is Jonita Randolph. Big South Rookie of the Year and Big South Player of the Year her senior season. After that, hopefully Jordan Jenkins will be inducted after she graduates in 3 years.

Eric Green
Heather Sagan
Josh McDougal
Karl Hess
Sid Bream
Jerry Edwards
Brant Tolsma
Katie Feenstra

Maybe - Ryan Warner
normally HOF's require a 4 year or more period after graduation before you can even be voted on, at least that's what the research showed when LC was reviewing their HOF process. normally there is such a waiting period so that people can have a better perspective on just how good of an athlete the person was since people are more likely to overrate the athlete if they can be elected right after they graduate. for example, don't you think gerry mcnamara's HOF status would have been awesome after what he did his senior year? after a few years, his HOF status probably won't look as good as it would have been right after his senior year ended. so if LU follows suit it's going to be a few more years on mcdougal although he should be guaranteed in the first time he is eligible.

OK - all good arguments. I will revise my list then:

Karl Hess
Sid Bream
Heather Sagan
Ryan Warner
Anthonia Akpama (1st team all conference all 4 years, all-time Kills leader - 2,024, second all time in blocks - 452)
Teresa Bream - Volleyball and Softball (Volleyball - most kills in 1 game 41, Digs 45, second all time for Kills - 1903, 2nd in service aces - 206)(Basketball - 37 all-time scorer, 13th all-time rebounder, Only played 3 years)
Nancy Davis (LU Leader in EVERYTHING) and capture 1st Big South Title as MVP
James Wright
Katie Feenstra (I don't care if it's early - she is worth bending the rules a little)

Virtually every HOF which has a "waiting period" has made exceptions in extraordinary cases. IMHO Josh McDougal's body of work in 4 years merits immediate induction. Katie has been gone for 4 years now, and I think she should go in right away too.

Good idea with Theresa Bream Proto. Highly unlikely we will EVER have another legitimate 3 sport athlete, either male or female.

I'm pretty sure Theresa played at least a year or 2 of softball proto.

Samantha Steele interviewed Kevin Keys about the HOF at halftime of the MBB game last night. Looks like they are going to have a hard and fast 5 year rule. I was surprised he was quite open in mentioning names of potential honorees. Sid Bream, Al Worthington, Karl Hess.....pretty much the ones we have mentioned here. He specifically said that Katie would need to wait at least a year.

Broadcasters and coaches are traditionally exempt from time requirements, so if they go by that, JE and coach Tolsma could go in now. I think it's because these guys are :oldhag by the time they retire, and they don't want them to kick the bucket waiting to be inducted. :)

Did he indicate a class size?

If we are still looking for a golfer, he may not have been great swinging the sticks but Toby certainly fits the fame aspect.

That's an interesting thought about Toby, but perhaps a bit of a stretch. He did allude to Hess' accomplishments as a referee as a factor to consider though. No mention of class size.

He also mentioned in the interview that it would initially be located in the Vines Center, with no current plans of a permanent location.

I posted this in the CCU game thread but thought I'd pass it on here ...
Sly Fox wrote:Barber talking about HOF on Mark Edwards' halftime show. He says they will have forms to submit for consideration. They will limit it to just 5 in first class. Doesn't want to water down the bigger names.

They will have award dinner on Friday night for inductees and then have ceremony at halftime of football game. Saying Kevin Keys is in charge of searching for placque and they are thinking of Vines Center but they don't have anything locked in stone so to speak.

Coaches, administrators and players will all be considered.
With a Class of 5 it should be much easier to guess who they might be next year. here is my likely five:
  • Al Worthington
    Sam Rutigliano
    Sid Bream
    Karl Hess
    Elena Kisseleva

If you're going for five... I think you divide it 3 for the men and two for the women, and hit your major sports

FOOTBALL: Sam Rutigliano
BASEBALL: Sid Bream
BASKETBALL: Peter Aluma
BASKETBALL: Katie Feenstra
TRACK & FIELD: Heather Sagan

I love LU athletics as much as any one out there. With that being said I can not believe that through out this discussion board no one has given praise to ONE soccer player or coach. We have had two gentlemen that have coached here that could get some consideration that is Coach Bell and Jeff Alder. Coach Bell was not only a great Coach but a great man of faith that took this program in the right direction. Jeff Alder was a good player in his own right here at LU and has continued Coach Bell's and LU's vision to become a great program at the DI level.

Coach Bell and Coach Worthington deserve to be in the first class for what they did in the pros and for LU. They elevated their programs and their testimonies are added pluses.

You can now submit nomination forms to the HOF committee. I only see one requirement:
To be eligible for the Liberty Athletics Hall of Fames, a student‐athlete must be five years removed from competition.

It appears the 5 year rule applies only to athletes. IMHO Jerry Edwards should be in as an "Athletics Contributor"

Speaking of "contributors", that brings to mind someone else who should be considered, although perhaps not for the inagural class.

At first I didn't think I should pick 2 from 1 sport, but there should be a coach in the inaugural class, and quite frankly I couldn't see leaving out either Sid or Al.
