Barber did one thing stupid. giving Gill and Layer an extension based off one good year (i shouldn't even say that).
Wouldn't that be two? :o

Layer was a bad hire period. However bball has been a dumpster fire forever. More i think about it the more discouraged i am.

I don't think it's giving up on athletics. I'd say it's accepting where we are. Let's fund like a well funded FCS school, not a well funded G5.

McKay will help with that, I think, unless he resigned suddenly. After all, the LU atmosphere is poison.

it would be interesting to see where they would compare to the likes JMU, Delaware, Montana, NDSU, etc. who are operating close to G5 schools. Do you know if they are planning to stop providing COA's to all sports (minus mbb and wbb)

I have a feeling that Gill's daughter's tweet tells us a lot about this situation.

I'm starting to wonder if JB's hand was forced on the hiring of TG.

Also, this situation is in no way comparable to LSU. And Jeff had no idea this was coming. It's one thing to show up, do your job and be quiet. It's another to be actively engaging with students and promoting the school. Something happened between last night and this morning that caught JB off-guard and he was asked to resign.

Can this be a situation of one wanted to fire Gill the other wanted to keep him? I mean if Gill still has a contract left and barber didn't and barber disagreed with jerry jr? He was the one likely to go

Nothing is beyond possible and forcing JR's hand would not be smart if you're on the payroll......but I don't see JR backing Gill that strongly. Especially when considering what his production has been. Could it be they are making a spot for Gill? Although it is a different sport......that's what happened with Dave Odom.

Barber's hand wasn't forced to hire Gill. One thing a lot of people forget, Gill's name had come up a few times when there was potential coaching vacancies across the country-North Texas being one that I can remember. So why wouldn't we offer an extension after the playoff run? If he leaves after the Villanova game for greener pastures, then were complaining that we didn't do everything we could to keep him around.

Gills daughter tweeted out 3 tweets apologizing for her statements on snap chat. she said what she said didn't reflect her father's opinion. Maybe daddy is scared his job is next?

That is the logical conclusion. You get the AD to resign who hired and supported your football coach and next in line is the head football coach.

What a crash and burn kind of end to the work week for LU.

Dare I say, there's still a chance for a playoff birth :)!

How crazy would that be. . .

I don't know if this has anything to do with anything. Did you notice during the VCU game VCU fans bought the premium seats in the Vines that I thought onky flamesclub members could get. He then tweeted simeone that the seats had to be sold and then that tweet was later deleted. I was just glad the Vines was much fuller than usual.

Stop the non sense on Jerry jr. For a decade he opened the check book to provide JB with the greatest budgets & facilities in FCS. JB made poor highers, ran off winning coaches and squandered millions in resources. I am positive any President/CEO that completely funds the Athletic Department would at some point say this is enough! JB destroyed MBB and FB now can not compete with CSU. Most insider do attribute Liberty's inability to move to FBS to the former AD. Barber was paid handsomely, given authority and funded like no other AD in America. This is a great move by Jerry jr & watch the lid come off LU Athletics!

Everything came down to the things we've talked about here: we're paying for coaches who aren't coaching here anymore and we are about to have to pay for Gill to not coach us anymore.

-Both Barber and Jr wanted Gill out.
So we have a valid reason why to let JB go. We are eating coaching contracts right now. Major sports have a downward trend. I get it, can't argue against. My only problem is the timing doesn't fit this. We are missing a piece of this puzzle.

Also, this puts to bed they didn't agree on Gill. I'm guessing come Saturday afternoon/Monday or after playoffs, we'll see that Gill is gone.

Could this be over contract negotiations between JFJR and JB? If JFJR wants to scale back, would this mean JB's salary was going to scale back some? Wasn't LU paying him like a FBS/G5 AD? Also, if I was JB, I'd be getting a little tired of doing this month to month thing.

Anyhow, I appreciate what JB has done at LU. He has helped LU's athletic programs move forward. Maybe not to the degree we'd like but the athletics programs are better now than when I graduated in 2007. I appreciate his love for our school, there is no doubt he loved LU. I wish him best on his next season of life. I'm withholding judgement on JFJR at this time. I'm going to wait and see what comes out and how it is handled in the coming days. I'm sure we'll hear something soon.

Not sure what the deal is on JB. But as far as athletic budgets go I look for all FBS, G-5 programs to tighten up . TV money is drying up and state budgets are stretched.

That's not the real reason, you can't really believe that can you? You don't remove your AD hours before a national televised game. This could of been done this past Monday if that was the real reason. As others have stated you can tell this was sudden.
