I'm not exactly sure why I've been labelled a "Florida fan" on here. Although, I find it humorous, I do feel like someone is attempting to categorize me as "Not a Liberty fan." Either way, despite the humor, I don't quite get it. I am a Liberty fan. I was at the game on Saturday, decked out in Liberty gear, and I was one of the few who stayed until the end.
I don't exclusively cheer for Florida, I just cheer for them first. At the end of the day, their success is more important to me than Liberty's success. However, I'm still on fire for Liberty athletics. I'm also sure that when my kids get older and going to a Liberty game, becomes a tradition for us, Liberty will be my number one team. But Liberty also has to earn that from me.
Liberty didn't just hand me a diploma, I had to work for it, I had to finish the job. In the same manner, I'm not just laying down my entire past as a Florida fan so that I can cheer for only Liberty. I'm quite passionate about both Florida and Liberty.
On the other hand, there are some people on here who are NOT real Liberty fans. However, those people are not who you think they are. These are the people who support Liberty, blindly. No matter what Liberty does, they support the school in everything. If the football team sucks, they'll be at every game and they won't complain one bit. These people are holding Liberty back and these people are not real Liberty fans.
I won't support every decision Liberty makes, why? Because I'm passionate about Liberty growing and living up to its potential. When they're wrong, I'm going to let them know it. At the same time, when Liberty makes great decisions, I'm going to let everyone else know it. I'm not simply passionate about the name, "Liberty."
Being passionate about merely a name is stupid and pointless.
