Sets New Hayward Field & Pre Classic Record. And for the less draconian among us, this is humorous...gotta love the Aussies. 8)

This guy has a great personality and isn't intimidated by the competition or the domination of the Kenyans in distance over the last several years.

Bold Mottram shows US he has undercarriage to tackle Africans

Jenny McAsey
June 12, 2007

IN an age of sanitised sport, few athletes would declare live on television across America that running fast was all about the size of your balls.["of his feet"] {FlameFans Self-Censor} 8)
But in the euphoria that followed a brilliant victory, Craig Mottram did just that.

"I did an interview on the infield, and the race had been fast, about 60 seconds a lap, and the guy said, 'How can you go and run that fast? What do you need to be able to do that?', and I said, 'Big balls count'," Mottram laughed yesterday. "I think they have to hold back the interview until after 9pm."

He divulged his secret to success on NBC just minutes after motoring down the home straight at the famous Hayward Field in Oregon, with enough breathing space to wave to the fans as he clocked the sixth fastest time over two miles.

With a host of Nike executives watching in the stands at the Prefontaine Classic, America's most famous outdoor track meet, it was one of the more important victories of a career that gets more spectacular by the year.

Mottram is never going to go unnoticed, not only because he has lean legs of iron strength and locomotion speed to more than match Africa's best, but also because he has a bold spirit that is bringing much-needed showmanship to distance running.

For the runners, who can relate to this, it is interesting to note that he was a Triathlete in high school...but that is for a diffrent thread.
