Sometimes your life can significantly change in a minute; for Laura Day it was in 1 minute and 4.41 seconds.
The home-schooled phenom swam the breaststroke in that time at the state tournament in February for Lewis-Palmer, and things haven’t been the same since.
Although Day finished .37 seconds behind Fairview’s Kourtney Fosse for the state title, her time — a school record — was more than enough to draw the attention of a few dozen colleges.
“I really wanted a Division I college; I was willing to look at Division II schools, but I wanted to go DI all along,” the senior captain said Friday of L-P’s team.
Of the 35 letters that Day received after her amazing performance at state last year, one college stuck out to her as far as meeting her criteria — Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Along with being DI and being a Christian school, Liberty offered coaching that Day found to be ideal.
