Winthrop will always be a challenge. Even though they have a new men's coach (each team at Winthrop now has its own head coach), Winthrop and Radford continue to recruit and bring in solid players. The good news is Coach Johnson has taken us out of the conference doormat position and recruits well enough that we can challenge them. Under him we've beaten both Winthrop and Radford, and put a scare into Radford after winning the doubles point at the conference tournament.

Both squads this year are very young, but very very talented and I am looking forward to seeing them in action.

Shea Thomas had an AMAZING win over Vikram Hundal (see below).
I was SO excited for Shea!!! :cheerleader
Our men's team did really well in this tournament and if they didn't post a win they played really close matches. I am So proud of them.

The following was posted on the Flames Site...
LibertyFlames.com wrote:"Sophomore Shea Thomas' victory over a seeded opponent in the opening round highlighted the Liberty men's tennis team's 11 victories in the 44th annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships over the weekend...
Thomas opened by facing Vikram Hundal of Georgia Tech, who ranked 30th nationally in the class of 2011 according to Tennis Recruiting Network and held a No. 3 seed in the Division II singles draw. After dropping the opening set, 6-2, Thomas commandingly won the final two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
"Shea had a really big win against the No. 3 seed. We come to these big tournaments to get strong wins and Shea did just that. It was a very proud moment for Liberty Tennis," stated head coach Chris Johnson."
