Here's some encouragement.

Volleyball costs $0 to attend, unlike hockey.
When you come to see volleyball, you get to see some of the top college athletes in that sport, unlike hockey.
When volleyball says "Were going to play Duke" there is no "CLUB TEAM" at the end of that sentence, unlike hockey.
Volleyball players dont smell, unlike hockey.
Volleyball matches allow you to win a cruise as well as coupons to a bunch of food places, unlike hockey.
Are you really comparing volleyball to hockey? It's like comparing apples and Porsches.
No, it's about comparing scholarship, Liberty Athletics teams as opposed to travel intramural teams. Hockey couldn't give two craps about what the athletic department is doing or is trying to do. They do their own thing without thinking of anyone else. It's the same way Student Activities was a few years back.

Here's a question though...does the athletic department care about hockey? Not trying to be rhetorical or sarcastic, just trying to ask an honest question. I know when I worked in Hancock the hockey team was rarely talked about.

Why should they care about hockey? Hockey isn't a scholarship sport and likely never will be.

So then, why should hockey care about the athletics department or what its trying to do?

They did change the time of Saturdays game as to not conflict with football. Credit there.

They just changed it to the direct time where everyone would be tailgating so that they had a game in one of the prime tailgating lots on campus during tailgating time.

You know what would have been totally awesome. If the hockey team would have rented somekind of viking ice outdoor rink (it's synthetic ice...I don't understand how it works)...and had the game outside during the tailgating. It would have been even more awesome with the rain...That way the people could have tailgated and saw the game. The NHL, they did it at a football field a couple of years back...it was snowing, and the Pens Sidney Crosby scored a gamewinning goal in overtime or something like that...it was awesome to watch...even on TV.

And the fact it has to be a certain temp.....not sure 65 and rainy is what they are looking for.

Oh and they have to sell about 60,000 tickets to make it worth while

Do you guys even read what I write. I said viking ice, whis does not need to be a certain temp. It's somekind of synthetic ice - think the snowflex. Secondly, we don't need NHL size or quality...up in PA, there were a buch of roller hockey rinks all around where I lived. We had a math teacher that put up his own small ice rink in his backyard.

There were some places that would have tournaments with portable boards basically made out of plywood. You could rent a small portable set, put it down in the parking lot with the cheapest viking ice available...and play a 4 on 4 scrimmage in the soaking wet rain before the game.

And take it all up the next day, return the rink, and resell the viking ice on Ebay. The only fans you need are the tailgating fans...taylor it for them the day of the biggest home football game.

Or................................................... if the people who are tailgating wanted to see a hockey game, they could just go inside and watch it. Being outside wouldn't really make it any more convenient for anyone, and the only place you could set up a rink would be in a parking area, taking up valuable parking/tailgating space.

I have to say this is one of the sillier ideas I've read here.

Hey, I have all kinds of sillier ideas that I have not unleashed upon flame fans yet.

The main one: an actual burning fire suit...like the alchol and water thing...so this person goes around as a fireball as our mascot. Especially good during the first baseball games when't it's still cold.

Look out kids...here comes the ball of FIRE.

Anyway, back to the volleyball. I did want to come to the LU vb game before the JMU game...but stuff came up at church and I couldn't make it. I'm a big hockey fan, but the main reason was the time. I think the vb game started at 2pm. I would have chosen that over the hockey game that day because it started to late (I think it was like 5PM)...then I would have had to rush and eat and not enjoy the pregame atmosphere.

i enjoy the fact that this thread has pretty much turned into which is better. volleyball or hockey.

point is only a select few care about hockey, and more care about volleyball. especially on a college students bank account volleyball and football are more feasible. free verse anything and free always wins.

i wont comment anymore on hockey though simply because i have never been to a game

Actually I think the hockey games get higher attendance, but who the heck really cares? Both are fun to watch, and if one wants to watch one over the other...so be it, there's no wrong choice.

my 3 fav sports to watch are international level rugby, volleyball and MMA in that order... just behind that comes hockey. I LOVE LU hockey... club sport be darned, they are still one of the top 8 teams in the country year in and year out at their level (and D-1 club hockey is no joke). vball and hockey are definitely two COMPLETELY different sports and part of the hockey draw is bone crushing hits, slick goals and fights (usually involving one person pulling the other persons shirt over their head and then punching them in the face...) that probably has something to do in large part with why hockey has more fans there. (although, if you wanted to increase attendance at v-ball games...j/k)

but really now, vball ends in late nov/early dec while hockey plays until march, so lets end this silly debate and go to vball while we have it, then enjoy a boxing match on ice until the spring.
QB Competition

We have some strong points (not many) but overall […]

Bowling Green

We need to play more physical. Lost that with JSU […]

But all the comments are that he wasn't a leftist.[…]

The poor guy didn’t make it very long. :)
