Tonight the Lady Flames battle the High Point Panthers in a battle that will decide who has sole possession of first place in the Big South standings. It should be a great match and I'm looking forward to it.

GO LADY FLAMES!!!

Tonight we find out which team is hungry. The girls had one of their better practices on Monday and they showed alot of of energy. They are focussed and ready to take care of business.

Yeah, we shot ourselves in the foot. We were clearly the better team, we just screwed up more.

There should be a movement to have ping pong rules apply: can't lose on a serve.

Also, the team did not play defense...watching us against Central Michigan was like watching the opposing hitting into a brick wall sometimes...tonight was definitely not our best defensive effort as far as blocking was concerned.

First of all, I believe that we need to give credit where credit is due. HP did what they needed to do to win last night. They hit spots when they needed to hit them. We can be as negative about the game as we want, but we can't look over the positives. Jess, Ashley and Chelaine all had great games last night with double digit kills, Karyl had a season high 23 digs, Kallie had a season high 60 assists, and Nicki had one of the greatest games of her career with 26 kills, 15 digs and 5 aces. I think that there are definitely some positives that we can take out of the match.
Secondly, as I look to the remainder of the season and into the Big South Tournament, I can't help but wonder if this was not the best thing that could have happened to us. Losing is never our desired outcome, however, if we had continued to breeze past Big South opponents, I feel as though we could have gotten a bit over-confident. There's no doubt in my mind who the best team is in the BS, but we need to know that there are other teams that are going to battle for our championship.
We definitely could have played better defensively last night, and we did have too many errors, but athletes make adjustments not excuses. I know that the team will make the necessary adjustments needed to beat competitive teams in the BS. If I remember correctly, last season, I feel like it was our loss to Winthrop that propelled us to the next level of v-ball. Maybe this is just what we needed...

I think you're being a bit harsh in your comments this time Sportscritic. I believe we played much better than we did against UNC-A. HPU is a much better team than Asheville. Several of Mellot's kills last night were mis-hit balls that should have been errors, but luckily for her they fell over the net, messing up blocking timing. I believe we could have blocked better, but they hit well. As far as overall defense, I think we had more digs than they did and we had some great rallies. The effort was there, but the results weren't.

i said what i said because i have never seen our team shoot their selves in the foot the way they did last night. That is what i have observed with this group over the last two years when i have seen them play. I believe we gave this game to them because of 32 hitting errors. But i agree the refs were inconsistent with her and her ball handling. Our defense IMO was not great last night either. there were a lot of balls hit that i have observed this group pick up and it didn't happen consistently last night.

A few thoughts on last nights game. In my opinion, the girls did not enter that game over confident. I think it was a game between two evenly matched teams and the team with the least amount of mistakes won. Liberty is a team that will learn from the loss and understand why it turned out the way it did. We can't expect to win against a team like HP when we make those types of mistakes that we all saw last night.

Just like the loss to Winthrop last season, the Flames will respond in a positive manner. I think we all know that Coach Pinder will use this loss as a motivating factor and have the girls working hard to improve in a few key areas. This is a small bump in the road and there is alot of Liberty Volleyball to be played.

The girls will play Liberty Volleyball starting with Winthrop this Friday and continue their winning ways. I will try not to look too far ahead but I already have November 11 marked on my calendar.

GO FLAMES !

I agree that they will respond in a positive manner...I'd rather lose this one time in the regular season than lose in the Big South tourney.
