Comets' Wendland signs with Liberty

CHARLES CITY — It turns out that mother really knows best.

Issac Wendland has made his collegiate decision and he has his mother to thank.

The Charles City cross country and track standout signed a national letter of intent with Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.

“Actually, my mom (Cindy) found it,” Wendland said. “She wanted me to go to a Christian school and found it on the Internet.

“She started checking it out and I thought Virginia was way too far away.”

Wendland, who also visited Northern Iowa, visited Liberty in late January. He said he was a little apprehensive before the official visit started.

Wow. Great find for Tolsma and the staff. Sometimes recruits don't impress me much. Not the case here. Sports Illustrated took notice by finding a place for Isaac in thier "Faces in the Crowd" section. Looks like this one's the real deal.

"He told me he really thinks they're going to win a national title, so he's hoping I could be a part of that," Wendland said. "That's exciting that he has big dreams. I'm just excited that he'd want me to be on a team and try to contribute."
See also the thread about Tolsma. He really does believe this team isn't far from a national championship. I believe him.

That's a pretty nasty XC finishing stretch at 1:00 or so. Ouch.
