Former Flames Captain Named Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach
March 27, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.
Former Liberty men’s soccer captain Adam Godwin has returned to his alma mater as the former defender has been named as an assistant coach for the Lady Flames women’s soccer program, head coach James Price announced today.
Godwin will help oversee several aspects of the program, including recruiting, scouting, camp development, and program marketing.
“I am absolutely delighted to be back at LU,” commented Godwin. “It’s a real honor being able to work alongside a coach like James Price, and I am just excited to be able to try and help this program continue its success and reach new heights. I would love to be able to help create the sort of program we see in Liberty women’s basketball, and with the talent we have there is no reason we can’t!”
“Adam brings a strong soccer background to the program. He has played at a high level and is well organized and ambitious off the field, which will help us move the program forward,” commented Price. “Our players will enjoy working and learning from Adam and I believe there are exciting times ahead for Liberty women's soccer”.
Godwin, who graduated in 2005 with a degree in sport management, played in 70 games for the Flames, earning first team all-conference, all-tournament and second team VaSID All-State honors his senior year. Godwin’s performances in 2005 also led him to be invited to try out with Great Britain’s U23 team and professionally with the Cheltenham Town Football Club.
After graduating from Liberty, Godwin moved to Atlanta, Ga. where he continued his playing career playing with the United Soccer Leagues’ Augusta Fireball and Atlanta Silverbacks reserve team. The Hereford, England native also took his first steps into coaching with the Atlanta Fire Soccer Club. Away from the field, Godwin has been working with sports hospitality giant THG Worldwide, providing corporate hospitality to events such as the 2006 World Cup for some of the world’s largest corporations. Godwin recently became engaged to his girlfriend of three years, Morgaine Christiansen, and the couple plans to marry in the summer of 2007.
