I noticed in the first 3 games so far this year we have not scored a goal yet. Is the competition that good or are we that bad? Hopefullly we won't have to wait till we get to BSC play to get some wins or goals.
They played ome tough teams early this season. Northern arizona- are undefeated with one tie against temple. UC irvine is 3-1-0 with a loss to fresno state. I dont think this ladies team is as bad as their record projects. I defintly don't think they are as good as they've been in the past but the first three games are not a good gauge for how the team will do the rest of the season. wait and see how they do against Old dominion this week.
Coach Price has been scheduling like this for years. Tough, sometimes very tough opponents early in the season, to make the conference even more winnable. Our ladies play what is by far the toughest schedule in the conference every year.
Also, they're in AZ because that's where Tanya Payne is from. Coach Price tries to go near a player's home at least once in their careers.
Btw, I think this years team is as good as a few of the recent teams, maybe better. The one BIG question mark is in the nets. Also, it remains ot be seen if Suzanne Edwards is able to anchor the defense as well as Bendzlowicz did throughout the '05 championship run.
steve i may stand corrected. irvine is picked to finish last in the big west, but NAU was picked to finish 3rd in the big sky. if pre-season rankings mean anything regardless playing teams frome the left coast will help down the road.
Thanks for the input. I am all for scheduling up. That is how we better the program instead of playing lower level competition (like the football team). At least we can get a good read on where we stand against top notch division 1 talent even though the results might not be what we want. I know how good Clemson is but I did not know much about N Arizona or Cal SB but I do now. Anyway the results aren't horrific but a little bit concerning considering the lack of offense. After the ODU game I will get a better read on how this team is shaping up.
THe girls are definitely struggling a lot more than usual...I will say that having a newcomenr in goal and a lot of freshmen in key positions probably doesn;t help much either. Hopefully they can finally turn things around
Liberty Class of 2009
2007 AND 2008 Big South Football Champions
2014 FCS Playoff Qualifier
the good thing is these games are non-conference. soccer is a funny game...once you heat up in the scoring column things get better, but indeed we are struggling, and need to get better soon.
Wow...and we were picked to win the Big South? Are we just choking away the season and not living up to expectations or is the Big South really that bad?
Well the struggles continue. It looks like we are getting smoked in Charlottsville. Down 3-0. Getting outshot 19-2. How long can this scoreless streak continue.
