Volleyball is a fast game and refs have a great deal to watch, but two missed calls in the 4th game (easy ones) helped VCU gain an edge. Even the VCU play-by-play announcer commented on how questionable the calls were.

You know it's a blown call when LU is running back to serve, and VCU is not contending the play.

I have always said, "Bad calls have a way of evening out over the course of a season." However, I'm starting to see a trend... the LU team does not get the benefit of some calls. If true, LU must play as if they are two points behind when we start each game... call it the "L.U.B.F." (Liberty University Bias Factor).

I'm proud of coach Pinder and the girls for not getting yellow carded over these calls. They have the big perspective in their hearts and minds... I'm still working on.

A ref does not suit up and play the match....you have to look at the game stats? Do not blame officials for players giving up 28 points in a game and then go after the officials for two questionable calls.

if you put yourself in the position to lose a game based on an officials call late in the game then you need to do better earlier in the game so you wont be in that position.

Can't really blame officiating for a loss, but at the same time bad officiating can come at the wrong times and affect the outcome.

I ref high school volleyball, and I know that I can make mistakes. Judgement calls are the toughest calls, because two people can see the same thing and believe it is okay or not okay. I didn't see the VCU match, so I don't know what bad calls were made. I would expect that if players or coaches never made mistakes in a game, then they could get upset with me over a mistake I might make. That being said, however, if my mistake was from lack of attention or from improper application of the rules, then they would be correct in being irritated over it. I think that if teams are evenly matched, they will play close games where a referee's decisions can indeed play a significant factor in the outcome of the game. I saw VCU play GW on Friday, and they made their fair share of mistakes. I would assume that they may have done so on Saturday as well. It's still early in the season and with so many new faces on the court for LU, I think it will be a little longer until our mistakes are more limited. So, if both teams shared in making mistakes and making good plays, then a few mistakes by a non-player, ie. the ref, can make a huge difference. We have a lot of talented players on the team, and I believe by the end of the year, a few mistakes by the refs will not keep us from winning.

Wow, "The Refs are against us" moaning has now made it to volleyball. Seriously, when the teams play a perfect game they can complain they lost b/c of the refs. Unitl then SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE and play the game. (Boy how I would love to say that come November!)

i believe in the L.U.B.F. but you can't blame the loss totallyon officiating. ya just gotta play better. on a side note im gonna have to watch haize referee!...i will be the guy hecking" there is the sausage king of lynchburg" from the stands!

Oh how I would love to be in the stands heckling Haize. A shame he doesn't call baseball games.

I've not heard that one...and you can bet it will be used come baseball season next spring.
