Listened to the most recent No Laying Up to get a better feel for it ... sure sounds to me that the PGA Tour was afraid of prolonged litigation against the PIF with an unlimited war chest and tried to cut its losses. I've long stopped worrying about the Saudi stuff, because their money is everywhere...

Quick follow-up: Isaac joined us on our Golf in the Commonwealth podcast to talk about the U.S. Open. We also talked to Charlie Howe of the USGA. Really good conversation with both of them.

In case you all missed it, Isaac Simmons qualified for the U.S. Open yesterday, along with Wake's Michael Brennan (also from Virginia). We're pretty sure it's the first time in about 25 years that any VSGA member has made it to the U.S. Open. Very cool to have two make it.

I was on a work golf trip last weekend so I didn't get to see a minute of the Duke game, but I watched the entire Georgia Tech game. Tech's tackling was brutal down the stretch. Unless that improves considerably, I don't like the Hokies' chances on Saturday. The offense just doesn't have much in the...

Fuente burned a ton of bridges in regards to in-state recruiting, and it's going to take this staff some time to build it back up. It's simply a lack of talent right now, and Pry will get a bit of a pass because of that. Andy wrote an excellent piece in the Athletic last year quoting a lot of high s...

I think Tech has a chance to win -- max -- two more games. I'm not banking on LU being one of those.

Tech only offers a certain amount of tickets to visiting fans. The best shot for LU to draw that many fans is to get tickets from Tech season ticket holders--who may be saving their energy for Penn State the next week--on the secondary market.

Well, LU will get 11 points alone from Mark Berman, who has the Flames 15th.

AP poll had us 31st for their latest poll. It is possible depending on what happens this week to the teams in front of us that when we beat Vandy that we make the jump to 25th in the nation! There are currently only two people voting for LU (Mark Berman and Sam Blum), so you're going to need to get...

Tech's non-conference, outside of Maui, is pitiful. That was Buzz's parting gift. He loved scheduling this way. I'm curious to see of Mike Young changes that going forward. Also, Tech was not included in this year's ACC-Big Ten Challenge, so there's another potential quality non-con game lost. And V...

Tech didn't defend worth a crap last night and Nolley got into early foul trouble, but let's not call a loss to Dayton bad. That's a regular NCAA Tournament team that will challenge for the A-10 title who has an elite player in Obi Toppin. There's a reason why the Flyers were 4-point favorites last ...

Nolley and Bede were indeed Buzz recruits who entered the transfer portal and decided to stay when they met Young. Most of Buzz's other recruits stuck with him to go to Texas A&M or looked elsewhere when he left Blacksburg. Fine win on Monday, tough loss on Tuesday to a very good Dayton team that wi...

I believe we can make it to the Sweet 16 with this team. As for being ranked, I'm not sure but it will be great to see Liberty in the Top 25. Well, Furman got ranked to around 20 with only playing a Southern Conference schedule with no significant wins last year. So why not us? Furman beat Loyola o...

I haven't worked there for more than four years now, but I'm guessing the game ended too late to get into the paper. Deadlines were creeping earlier even when I was there, and Sunday night is bare bones as far as staff on the desk goes. When did the game end?

Can one separate ND from Catholics? Baylor from Baptists? BYU from Mormons? If the person resembles a phallic symbol they will not create the separation. Most people will make the separation easily. To this point, the leaders of the schools you have mentioned have not been outspoken politically abo...

In coverage? Yes, it's possible to separate the school's politics from its athletics. In public opinion, not quite as simple. I watch a lot of sports out at a few bars in Richmond, and I was particularly interested in the LU-Miss State NCAA tournament game. Basically everyone I talked to said they c...

It costs more to bring in a MEAC school for a buy game than it does an NAIA school. Significantly more. But considering Liberty's cashflow, that really shouldn't be an issue.

I think it's a start of something big, though the conference affiliation will hold LU back because it's going to be hard for the Atlantic Sun to ever get two teams in the tournament. As good as Lipscomb was this year, it was only a five seed in the NIT, which shows the Bisons were never in the conv...
